SCIENCE FROM THE COMMUNITIES

Science for a Caribbean that's more resilient

We work in partnership with communities to generate knowledge, strengthen capacity and conserve biodiversity.

Our mission

Foster a culture where scientific curiosity and community participation strengthen conservation.

Contribute to the conservation of Caribbean ecosystems through research, learning, and participation.

Generate ecological knowledge that contributes to better-informed public policy and individual decisions.

We are currently working in

7

departments of the Colombian Caribbean.

Projects

Bioacoustic Monitoring with Students

Night-time Moth Watch

Voices of the Caribe

Students use bioacoustic monitoring technology to record and analyze the sounds of biodiversity, contributing to scientific research and the understanding of Caribbean ecosystems.

We conduct community-based nocturnal surveys using ultraviolet lights to study moths as key indicators of environmental change, revealing little-known species and strengthening knowledge of local biodiversity.

We produce a podcast— an audio production distributed via WhatsApp—that connects the rigor of academic research with the stories and oral history of the local inhabitants.

People of all ages participate in monitoring bees, butterflies, and other pollinators to understand their conservation status and promote healthy ecosystems.

For ten days, we lead a group of science students from local universities on a trip across the Colombian Caribbean, visiting communities and ecosystems to learn, conduct research, and build collaborative networks centered on community science.

Pollinator Inventories

Community Publications

Caribbean Science Exchange

We develop publications that make scientific knowledge accessible, useful, and relevant to diverse audiences.

Community science begins with a conversation. Whether you are a student, teacher, researcher, community leader, fisher, farmer, or simply a curious person, there is a place for you in our community.
